Diversified is the most widely studied chiropractic technique in the world. The Drop Table assists the adjustment with controlled mechanical drop pieces.
Quick takeaway
The classic, time-tested chiropractic adjustment delivered with precision.
What it does
Here's what most patients notice from diversified technique / drop table — outcomes vary by case, but these are the consistent themes we see in the clinic.
- Precise force delivery
- Comfortable for new patients
- Effective for full spine and pelvis
How it works
Drop-table assists allow Dr. Sam to deliver an effective adjustment with less force — ideal for patients who prefer a gentler approach or who have specific contraindications.
In-depth guide to Diversified Technique / Drop Table

Diversified Technique is the most widely taught, most widely practiced, and most extensively researched chiropractic adjusting method in the world. If you have ever been to a chiropractor, you have almost certainly received some form of Diversified adjustment. Its strength is that it is a complete system — it has specific assessment procedures and specific adjustments for every joint of the spine, pelvis, and extremities. Dr. Sam Sangha uses Diversified as the foundation of his adjusting work and combines it with Drop Table assistance, the Ring Dinger® maneuver, Johnson BioPhysics® corrections, and Flexion Distraction depending on what each patient and each joint requires.
The defining characteristic of a Diversified adjustment is the high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) thrust. After identifying a restricted joint through palpation and motion testing, the chiropractor positions the patient to take up the slack in that joint, then delivers a precise, quick, controlled thrust at exactly the angle the joint needs. The thrust is fast enough to take the joint past its restricted barrier but small enough in amplitude to stay well within physiological tolerance. Done well, it produces an audible cavitation (the familiar 'pop'), restoration of normal joint motion, and immediate relief of the surrounding muscular guarding.
The Drop Table — also called the Thompson table — is an adjusting table with sectional drop pieces under the head, thoracic, lumbar, and pelvic regions. Each piece can be cocked into a slightly raised position before the adjustment. When the chiropractor applies a thrust, the piece drops a short distance, assisting the adjustment by adding controlled mechanical motion in the direction of correction. The result is an effective adjustment with significantly less force from the practitioner — which makes the technique especially well-suited to patients who are newer to chiropractic, more sensitive, smaller in stature, or recovering from injury.
Dr. Sam uses Drop Table extensively for the pelvis and sacroiliac joints, where the assist allows for very precise correction of common patterns like posterior or anterior innominate rotation, upslip, and SI joint fixation. Many patients with stubborn lower-back pain that has not responded to traditional adjustment alone respond beautifully to a series of Drop Table SI corrections combined with the appropriate corrective work. The table is also valuable for cervical work in patients who do not enjoy or do not tolerate manual cervical adjustments, and for thoracic work where the assist allows correction with the patient lying face down rather than in the more dramatic prone-cross-arm position.
Diversified and Drop Table technique are evidence-based, time-tested, and remarkably safe when delivered by a competent practitioner. Decades of clinical and research literature support their use for mechanical neck and low-back pain, headaches with a cervicogenic component, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, and a range of extremity conditions. Adverse events are rare, transient, and almost always minor — typically a few hours of mild post-adjustment soreness similar to what you might feel after a hard workout. Serious adverse events are extraordinarily uncommon when standard contraindications are screened.
Patients new to chiropractic often appreciate the predictability of Diversified and Drop Table work. Each adjustment is explicitly set up — Dr. Sam will explain what he is about to do, position you carefully, and give you a moment to relax before the thrust. There are no surprises, no rough handling, and no aggressive maneuvers. The same approach is used for elderly patients, pediatric patients (when applicable), pregnant patients (with appropriate modifications), and anyone who simply prefers a gentler, more controlled feel.
For more experienced patients or those specifically seeking the Ring Dinger® full-spine decompression maneuver, Dr. Sam combines Diversified-style segmental work with the higher-impact decompression techniques as appropriate. Many visits end up using a combination of all three: Drop Table for the pelvis, Diversified for individual restricted spinal segments, and a Ring Dinger® finish to clear any residual full-spine restriction. The combination produces a thorough, complete adjustment without overdoing any one technique.
Whether you have never seen a chiropractor before or have a history of regular care, our Ontario, CA clinic is set up to deliver exactly the kind of adjustment you need. New patient evaluations are $300 and include a discussion of which techniques will work best for your case; follow-ups are $200. Patients come from across the Inland Empire and Greater Los Angeles for this combination of classical chiropractic precision and modern decompression work.
Diversified technique with a drop-table assist is the workhorse of evidence-based chiropractic — high-yield, low-force, and exceptionally well tolerated. Dr. Sam uses the drop section to amplify the precision of the adjustment rather than relying on raw force, which is why this approach suits patients who are nervous about manual cracking, older patients, and athletes who need targeted segmental work without disrupting the rest of the spine.
